Ramp Champions Statement

Supporting our initiative to help those in poverty gain the skills and knowledge to enable access, support, and connections to overcome systemic barriers and lift themselves out of poverty.

Our Honorary Champions are political leaders who share our vision of Muskoka.
We thank them for their support in principle!

Individual RAMP Champions

Our individual RAMP Champions are community members who are very supportive of our mission, and are already involved in various organizations, including some local programs dedicated to RAMPs vision. Our champions, with the resources RAMP provides, will help shine the light on poverty in Muskoka and are committed to introduce others to the challenges faced by many of our residents. 

Cindi has a long resume of volunteering in public, private and independent schools. She was a public health nurse and has a Masters in Education. Currently she is a Community Impact Volunteer at the United Way in the greater Toronto area as well as VP of the York Schools Parent’s Association

Daniel is the founder of CREATIVE ONE®, an innovative web and technology firm known for its creativity, results and client care. The first recipient of the 2003 Muskoka Business Plan Challenge Award, Daniel has continued to pursue entrepreneurship with passion. In his personal time he has travelled to over 35 countries and in his volunteer time he served as a director and chair of Muskoka Community Foundation. He is presently the current Chair of Muskoka Futures.

Chair of President’s Capital Campaign Advisory Committee for Nipissing University. Member of the Advisory Council for Muskoka Steamships and Discovery Centre.Honorary member of Rotary Club of Gravenhurst.
Mr. Durnan is an experienced non-profit executive.  He helped found the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation in 1987 and Muskoka Community Foundation in 2007.

Samantha Ennest is a lifelong resident of Muskoka and is happily raising her family in the beautiful town of Gravenhurst. She is the current Circles South Muskoka Coordinator with the YWCA of Muskoka and has over 20 years of experience supporting local children and families in a variety of roles including Parent Education Facilitator, Early Years Facilitator and most recently as the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muskoka.   Samantha has remained committed to supporting the people of Muskoka in these various roles and after experiencing what it’s like to live in poverty with her children, she is particularly passionate about supporting other people in our community who are living in poverty.

Steve and his late wife, Linda, who became an original Director, were involved in the original funding of the Muskoka Community Foundation. Linda was a former Chair of the Muskoka Lakes Museum.  Steve is well known in the community and supports charitable causes.

Hilary has been coming to Muskoka since she emigrated to Canada in 1977 and has been based on Lake Joseph for 36 years. She worked in her Family business for over thirty years. Hilary has a long history of fundraising at her children’s schools as well as The Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and The May Court Club of Oakville.

Karen has been a year-round Muskoka resident since 2006 and is raising two daughters in the beautiful village of Utterson. She has worked full time for 13 years in this region with Metroland Media as an advertising specialist. As a single parent and sole income earner, Karen has experienced the unique challenges a year-round resident can face working and living in Muskoka. She also volunteers with the Utterson Community Hall Board.

Geordie has been a lifelong cottager turned full time local in Port Carling. He graduated from the University of Guelph in 2006. Geordie purchased Summer Water Sports (SWS) the same year and moved to Port Carling full time. He is a member of the Port Carling Volunteer Fire Department, the Father of two boys and an active community member in Muskoka.

Dr. Owens is involved in volunteer work in Muskoka.  He founded “Dads of Muskoka” in his words: “A mostly young group of local dads in Muskoka looking to reinvent the service club idea for our generation.” He also founded and was a Board member of Muskoka Trails Council.

Charlotte has been involved in many charitable causes in Oakville as a fundraiser and in leadership roles — President of the May Court Club of Oakville and President of the Association of May Court Clubs of Canada (Canada’s oldest volunteer organization). She has a long history of volunteering in her children’s schools and has worked in the Family business.

Mags has spent her life as an active volunteer.  She has served/is serving on the boards of Appleby College, Halton Healthcare Services,  Board Chair Acclaim Health (VON) Oakville, Chair of the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Chair of it’s Foundation, currently on the Board of Wellspring and Community Living Oakville.

The Honourable Graydon Smith – MPP Parry Sound-Muskoka, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Chair of AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) Small Urban Caucus; Rotary 2019 Citizen of the Year.  A member of various Boards and Associations dedicated to improving the Provincial/Municipal relationship.  Working to making the Town and District a better place by building consensus and working with others.

Dan Sullivan has a successful 39 year career in financial services followed by Prime Minister appointment as Consul General for Canada in New York. Dan has considerable for-profit and not-for-profit board experience and chaired the boards of the Toronto Stock Exchange, Toronto Local Health Integration Network, and St. Michael’s Hospital.

Eve Willis, following a career in publishing and raising her two sons, embarked on a second career as a full time volunteer, fundraiser, Board Trustee and overall philanthropist for a myriad of organizations that support the well being and sustainability of community members. 
She has been an integral part of such diverse organizations as United Way; Ronald McDonald House; The Lighthouse for Grieving Children to name but a few.
Her passion has been the Oakville Hospital Foundation where she, as a Board Member, co-chaired it’s $60 million capital campaign and Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation where she has been a volunteer for the past 20 years.
Along with her husband, Peter, she owns an island cottage on Lake Rosseau and has been a supporter of such Muskoka organizations as the South Muskoka Hospital and Camp Oochigeas.

Peter Willis has virtually spent his entire summer life in the North, with the last 37 years being in Muskoka. Along with his wife, Eve, he owns an island cottage on Lake Rosseau and is a Past Director of the Muskoka Lakes Association.
He co-owns his own business, distributing large construction and mining machinery, Equipment Sales and Service Limited and has extensive Board governance, finance and fundraising experience in both the education and healthcare sectors and “considers philanthropy a duty as well as a privilege “.
Peter is motivated to support RAMP’s mission and vision and bring awareness of Muskoka’s high per capita rate of poverty to both permanent and seasonal residents.

Our Remembered Champions are a tribute to past Champions who are no longer with us.
Their support and contributions are greatly missed.

Hugh & Janice Rennie – Former Toronto residents and Lake Rosseau cottagers for more than 50 years. The Rennies ran a successful business with The Rennie Team real estate, Chestnut Park. Hugh was a co-founder of Camp Oochigeas, a camp for children with cancer just outside of the Town of Rosseau. They had been involved in many charitable causes and connected with a wide network of people in Muskoka.
